This about sums up the weekend thus far...

The first full week of the new semester is now behind us. My initial enthusiasm has already shed like a snake skin. Semester-long meetings have been scheduled, deadlines laid out, an ever growing mountain of projects, proposals, manuscripts, and teaching/research endeavors accumulate. And what/who is there to accompany me on this magical journey? Who is there to assuage my grief and fear? A plethora of angry, bitter administrators and apathetic students that sleep, text, whine about lecture notes not being posted online, and strongly (oh so strongly) believe they are entitled to everything. (Occasionally, I pinch myself to ensure I'm not trapped in a dream where the class is acting out their favorite chapters from books like Generation Me or The Narcissism Epidemic)

Anyhow, a movie quote keeps ringing in the back of my mind:
"When I was a little boy, my mother used to sing me a song. It went like this, 'Life is short, life is shit, and soon it will be over.'"
